What is Open Source Finance?
Open Source Finance is a blog to document my journey into the complex and fast-moving world of fintech.
Fintech is quickly bleeding into every aspect of our lives. Angela Strange of Andreessen Horowitz famously delivered a presentation in 2019 titled ‘Every Company Will Be a Fintech Company’. She said:
“In the not-too-distant future, nearly every company will be a financial services company. Startups will be able to launch companies faster and more cheaply. Existing financial services institutions will be able to introduce new products quickly—and spend less on IT maintenance.
As we saw with Uber, Lyft, Shopify, and Mindbody, every company should now be thinking about how to leverage financial services to better serve their customers, better retain their customers, and drive more margin.”
Here’s what I’m seeing: the pace of fundamental change in the world is speeding up. The convergence of technology and finance is disrupting markets and augmenting the way we buy, save, interact, and do business. There are massive opportunities out there, and if you’re reading this, it is likely that you, too, want to be on the right side of change.
Join me as I build my expertise in this sector. I will not only document my insights, but show you my process and workflow. I’ll share my unvarnished thoughts and unfinished products, my successes, failures, and key learnings as I improve and iterate.
Finance is better when it’s open source. I sincerely hope that you will join me on this journey.
About Park Yeung
Hi, I’m Park! I’m an economist and financial analyst by training. After a career in consulting, I am returning to graduate school to pursue an MBA. I’m hoping to use that experience to transition into a career in fintech.
I’ve always been passionate about financial freedom and financial education. I think the ability to participate meaningfully in financial markets is one of the best ways to achieve financial freedom / improve equality. Of course, education is a necessary pre-requisite to that.
I’m also passionate about technology, entrepreneurship, economics, behavioural sciences, productivity, self-improvement, leadership, and more. I’ll write about these and other topics I find interesting in this blog.
